Having a bad day at the office? Nothing seems to be going your way? Too much work needs to get done? These are just some of the questions that employees need to face and answer everyday which leads to stress. Stress on the job is one of the major causes of absenteeism, and ineffectiveness in the workplace, which leads to loss of morale and trust.
The stress that we feel at work can either be influenced by external, meaning our boss, the demands of others, delays, and deadlines; and internal influences, meaning our own expectations, our goals for the day, and some of the other factors that can either be related or not related to the job. When all of these are compounded together and experienced over a long period of time, it can lead to chronic stress. Chronic stress can wreak havoc on our careers and hinder our progress.
In order for us to avoid falling into this pit we need to have an effective stress management system in place. The beauty of stress management is that it doesn’t need money to put up, it is quick to set-up, and results are yielded almost immediately. In developing an effective stress management plan here are some guidelines that you have to follow.
Before you can begin to devise a management plan, try to organize everything that you need to accomplish in accordance to importance and setting up a timeline of when you or your company expects it to be done. This will allow you to break down all of your tasks into easier and manageable pieces.
Keep an organizer handy so that you will be able to keep track of all your appointments and workload for the day. This will keep you from overloading yourself with commitments, since you will be able to see your whole day's schedule.
Set realistic goals of achievement. Nobody is perfect, not even you. By setting goals too high or too far to reach you will only be pressuring yourself to do more than what you can and ending up stressed and frustrated in the end. Also, you can try to incorporate either an exercise regimen or a meditation session within your management plan. We all know the benefits that exercise and meditation can give in achieving wellbeing. It doesn’t have to be rigorous or long, 30 minutes of either exercise or self meditation each week will do.
The only people who can determine how well we are and how well we will be doing in the workplace are our own selves. By taking care of ourselves, we get more prepared on whatever stressful situations that come our way.
